Keep developing after qualification. NGPass Driving Academy offers focused instructor development in Nottingham for qualified ADIs who want sharper teaching decisions, more confident client-centred practice and support with real professional challenges.
Development that serves your work
Stay curious.
Keep your teaching responsive.
Professional development is most valuable when it improves what happens in the car. We connect reflection, observation and deliberate practice to the pupils, lessons and decisions that matter in your everyday work.
Teaching quality
Refine client-centred practice
Explore whether the pupil is genuinely involved in the lesson, understands the goal and can take increasing responsibility for decisions and safety.
Professional challenge
Work through difficult situations
Develop practical responses to stalled progress, anxiety, repeated faults, overconfidence, differing learning needs or lessons that lose direction.
Sustainable confidence
Strengthen your judgement
Examine why an approach worked, what could change and how to make sound teaching decisions without relying on a fixed script.
Our development approach is informed by the national standard for driver and rider training.
Choose a useful focus
Start with evidence, not assumptions.
Your development may begin with lesson observation, pupil feedback, a Standards Check report, a pattern you have noticed or simply a teaching situation you want to handle better.
This is not limited to test preparation.Instructor development can support day-to-day teaching, professional reflection and longer-term growth at any stage of your ADI career.
We agree a focus that is specific enough to practise and important enough to make a meaningful difference.

Practical, individual development
Turn reflection into better teaching choices.
Training is shaped around your priorities. We make the focus observable, practise alternatives and consider the effect each choice has on the pupil’s understanding, responsibility and safety.
Design purposeful lessons
Connect the pupil’s current needs to an achievable goal, a suitable route and practice that gives them a real opportunity to improve.
Question with intention
Use questions to explore understanding and decision-making, rather than asking for answers the pupil is expected to guess.
Manage risk collaboratively
Make responsibility clear, maintain effective observation and choose the right level of intervention as the pupil’s performance changes.
Adapt to the individual
Respond to confidence, prior experience, processing demands and learning preferences without losing structure or lowering safety standards.
Make feedback actionable
Help the pupil understand what happened, why it mattered and what they can do differently on the next attempt.
Evaluate your own practice
Separate description from judgement, recognise patterns and choose a manageable development action you can test in future lessons.
A clear development cycle
Notice. Practise.
Review. Apply.
Lasting improvement comes from working with real evidence, trying a deliberate change and reviewing what it did for the pupil.
Define the priority
Discuss your experience, current challenges and the outcome you want from the development work.
Gather useful evidence
Use conversation, records, practical scenarios or lesson observation to understand what is happening now.
Practise an alternative
Work on a specific teaching behaviour and consider how it changes the pupil’s thinking, performance and responsibility.
Review and take it forward
Identify what improved, what still needs attention and how you will apply the learning in everyday lessons.
Your next action should be clear enough to use, observe and review. Further training can then respond to what the evidence shows.
Discuss your development goalsNottingham-based · Instructor-led
Develop in the environment where you teach.
Nottingham offers varied teaching situations, from quieter residential roads to complex junctions, multi-lane routes and changing traffic demands. The location is useful when it supports the development focus, not simply because it looks challenging.
We help you connect route choice, task demand and instructional support, then review how those choices affect the pupil.
NGPass Driving Academy has been teaching since 2010, with instructor training since 2020.
- Individual goals agreed from your starting point
- Feedback connected to observable teaching decisions
- Practical next steps for your own lessons

Who is instructor development training for?
It is designed for qualified driving instructors who want to refine their teaching, address a professional challenge or develop a particular area of practice. The starting point is your current experience and goals.
Do I need to have a Standards Check booked?
No. This service focuses on ongoing professional development. If you have a Standards Check date, the dedicated Standards Check training page explains assessment-specific preparation.
Does the training include lesson observation?
It can, when observation is the most useful way to understand your teaching. The pupil, vehicle, location and format must be agreed before booking.
Can we focus on one particular teaching challenge?
Yes. A focused priority often produces the most useful work. Describe the situation, what you have already tried and the outcome you would like to improve.
Can experienced ADIs benefit from development training?
Yes. Experience provides valuable evidence to reflect on. Development can help an established instructor examine habits, test alternatives and respond to new or complex teaching situations.
How much training will I need?
There is no standard amount. It depends on your goal, starting point and whether you want a single focused session or development reviewed over time. The proposed format and fee will be confirmed before booking.
Is instructor development the same as ADI Part 3 training?
No. ADI Part 3 training prepares people working towards qualification. Instructor development supports qualified ADIs with continuing growth, while Standards Check training is assessment-specific.
